How to Throw a Great Magic Birthday!

After 25 years of birthday parties we've learned a few things that

can save you a lot of stress and make your party run smooth!

How much space is needed?

The magic show itself takes a space of about 15 feet wide by 10 feet deep.  It's best if D.J.'s back's against a wall and the first row starts at 10 feet from the wall.  We've never been in a home that didn't work.  Most any living room, basement, sun room, etc, is great!  It is IMPORTANT that D.J. can set up in private while the kids are in a different area in order for the show to start on time.  He'll also need help "wrangling" the kids so he can break down and pack up at the end.

What about outside?

Generally an outside magic show is a bad idea.  There are many elements working against having the best experience.  The extra noise, the heat, the wind knocking over the props, kids feeling a little "too free" to roam.  If at all possible you will find your best show taking place inside.

When should the show start?

The show needs to be scheduled to start at least 30 minutes after the party starts to ensure all of your guests have arrived.  Once D.J. is set up he can start whenever you're ready but it's important that he ends at the scheduled ending time so he can get to the next party.

Where should the kids sit?

If D.J. is set up against the wall the first row should start 10 feet away from the wall.  It's also important that no one is sitting directly to the sides of the show, or behind.  Most of D.J.'s equipment is made to pack flat.  If anyone is on the side they will not be able to see the front of the props to know what's happening.

When Should The Kids Have Cake?

Cake time is best right after the show.  If they're full of sugar before it starts you simply will not enjoy the best possible experience.  Also, announcing the cake is a great way to clear the kids from the area so D.J. can pack up when the show is over.

Should we have popcorn?

Probably not during show time.  The kids hands are not free to help with the show.  The selected volunteers are climbing over the snacks in your home and spilling them everywhere.  It also comes with lots of extra noise and little food fights.

Magic Wands and Magic Party Favors for the kids?

D.J. actually offers his very own "Master Magician D.J. Edwards" Deluxe Magic Trick Sets and Rising Magic Wands.  These are a great for those in attendance or as a special gift for the birthday child.  Be sure to ask if you'd like us to bring some as an "add on" or to be offered for purchase after the show.  (See more below)

Are photos and videos allowed?

Yes!  Please get all the footage you'd like to remember your special day!  And we'd love for you you to tag us on Facebook so we can see how everyone enjoyed their time.

Are pets welcome?

Once we saw a Great Dane sit perfectly behaved and actually watching the show!  She was precious!  Most dogs unfortunately walk around, curiously checking out the props, blocking the view, and distracting the kids.  Only you know your animals.
